“The accused in an acid attack should be responsible for medical treatment and rehabilitation expenditure of the victim.An innocent girl or woman victim is forced to live with the scars of acid attacks for the whole life.This is unfair and cruelty against the girls’and woman.Acid attack accused must bear medical treatment and rehabilitation cost of the acid attack victims.”addressing
the workshop convened by the National Commission of Women held recently in New Delhi to discuss new amendments in Dowry Prohibition Act and issue of Acid Attacks on Girls’ and Women,
Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Renuka Chowdhary said regarding a Legislation to punish the real perpetrators of acid attacks.

Expressing concern over reported lack of employment opportunities for such victims,the Minister said her Ministry would approach Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and other industrial organizations to consider appointment of such victims on priority basis as a part of their social responsibility.

The National Commission for Women NCW, New Delhi has proposed monetary compensation of up to Rs.30 lakh for the genuine acid attack victims.

According to Rotarian Dr.Ravindra Narain Singh,eminent orthopedic surgeon of Patna (Bihar)-“Acid attack causes the skin tissues and muscles to melt like wax,often exposing the bones below the flesh,
sometimes even dissolving the bone.When acid attacks the eyes,it damages these vital organs permanently.Many acid attack survivors have lost the use of one or both eyes.The victim is traumatized physically,psychologically and socially.”

Such types of heinous crime is now very common in the Indian metro cities-Delhi,NOIDA,Mumbai,Chandigarh,Surat,Patna,Kolkata,Hyderabad,
Gurgaon,Ludhiana,Kanpur etc.The maximum victims of such types of crime are young girls or women and children.

This historical amendment by Renulka Chowdhary is a praiseworthy historical step for the Protection of the rights of the Acid Attack victims.Indeed this amendment is a Double Slap for the Acid Attackers.Kudos to Renuka Chowdhary for this revolutionary step.
