The sacred Indian rivers like the Ganga and the Yamuna are chocking due to the spiritual garbage after the festival of Sri Ramnavami. Due to the religious belief people prefers to throw spiritual holy garbage like flowers, floral garlands, mango, ashoka, banana leaves,
earthen pots, yagya /havan ashes, chunri, idols of gods/goddesses in the in the rivers like Ganga and the Yamuna in the cities like
Delhi,Noida,Agra,Mathura,Patna,Allahabad,Kanpur,Varanasi,Lukhnow,
Varanasi,Haridwar etc.

They did not know that this system slowly turning our life giving holy rivers into sewage canals and dustbins.Such types of horrific
environmental problem shows that there is lack of environmental conservation education and awareness in our country. River water and quatic flora & fauna of these rivers are in danger due to this religious environmental pollution.

Mother Ganga and Mother Yamuna are crying for help. But her greedy children wanted to cash this problem as foreign aid in the name of Ganga Action Plan and Yamuna Action Plan.More than 40,000 crores rupees of our government and International funding agencies have been wasted for the river cleanliness programs yet.But the result is not, satisfactory, despite Supreme Court’s several strict repeated notifications and critisms.

Some selected organizations which are working for the conservation of the Ganga and the Yamuna are : CSE ( Centre for Science and Environment,New Delhi )under the the guidance of Padma Shri Sunita Narain,Director and Environmentalist,CSE),Pranam Pushpanjali, Noida
(under the guidance of Meena Aum, Founder Director), Ganga Bachao Andolan,Patna(Bihar)under the guidance of Guddu Baba),Yamuna Bachao Andolan by Waterman Dr.Rajendra Singh,Tapas,Yamuna Yatra New Delhi, etc.

“The holy river Yamuna is now completely dead.It is now a sewage canal due the environmental pollution, industrial pollution, sewage pollution and spiritual garbage pollution. It is now officially cremated. She crying for protection from the environmental pollution and government’s slow action plan.Crores of rupees are being wasted every year in the name of Yamuna Action Plan. But,it’s result is not satisfactory, despite Supreme Court’s several notifications.Project plan for Commonwealth Games- 2010 is also harmful for the health of the river Yamuna.Understand the river Yamuna to Understand India’s Water Problems.”said Padma Shri Sunita Narain, Director, CSE, New Delhi.

According to Navneet Khurana,Project Coordinator,Pranam Pushpanjali Noida:

“There is lack of awareness in our society regarding the Yamuna Pollution. There are religious superstitions which promotes dumping of spiritual garbage in the river Yamuna and the Hindon.”

Pranam Pushpanjali, Noida is doing a good job for the collection and disposal of the Prayer flowers from the residents and temples of Noida for the river Yamuna conservation for 10 years in Noida under the guidance of the Founder Director,Pranam Puhpanjali,Noida, Meena Aum. There must be cooperation from the government and the society for the control of the dumping of floral garbage in the Yamuna river.

The people should respect and obey the environmental laws for the protection of environment and the center and state government must enforce the laws before it is too late.It urgent that a national environmental conservation mass awareness program should be taken up urgently to save these rivers.

Jawaharlal Nehru had said once that, from her source to the sea, from old times to new, the Ganga is the story of India’s civilisation. Now, the synonymous of Indian civilization, the Holy River Ganga, is literally dying because of the water pollution, over-extraction of water, wasted tributaries and climatic changes are killing the mighty river.

Yes, you are correct, Indian rivers are dying and the government is ignoring the problem. The country is facing the food crisis because the government didn't take care of agriculture land and farmers and now the country would face the water crisis because no one is there to save rivers, lifeline of India.

Millions of tonnes of sewage is daily going into the rivers across the India and threatening the living of people living near the rivers. The national capital produces 3.6 billion litres of sewage per day and only half of the sewage is effectively treated and the half goes into the Yamuna river. Can you imagine how horrible the condition is n Delhi's life -The river yamuna.

The holy river Ganga is the synonymous of the ancient-old Indian civilisation. And the river is dying now due to pollution, over-extraction of water, emaciated tributaries and climatic changes. half of India's population can't imagine life without the river Ganga.
