Unite To Help Bihar Flood Victims

By Ranjan Kumar Amritnidhi,Delhi

“ Sab kichh lut gel
Hey Bhagwan aab ki hatay !!”

“Trahimam!!! Trahimam !!!
Raksha kar Hey Bholenath,
Raksha kar,Raksha kar,
Kosi bandh san
Sabhak Raksha kar Hey Bholenath !! ”

“ Ya Allah! Sailab san Hamra Bachab !! ”

“ O God, Save us from flood !!”

“ Wahe Guru bas tera ek sahara !!!”

These are some SOS messages in Maithili language to God from the Kosi Flood victims. They had lost everything. They are weeping and crying for the rescue from the killer Kosi flood. They are praying God for bread, water, shelter, medicines, security and welfare of the lost beloved kids, relatives and pet animals.

This cataclysm flood of the Kosi river in Bihar is a curse
of Mother Nature. It’s also a result of total negligence of the Government of India,Government of Bihar and the Nepal Government.
Anti-Bihari mentality of the Government and some separatist groups are also responsible for this tragic situation in Bihar.

“Embankments are not the solution to taming floods in Bihar. In fact, building embankments that collapse with terrifying regularly
has become a neat little money -spinning exercise, perpetuated by a nexus of Politicians,Contractors and Engineers ” : said Eklavya Prasad, a senior flood prevention activist of Megha Pyne Abhiyan, a network of dedicated organizations working with the flood prone North Bihar for over three years recently in a Press Conference at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Kosi–the sorrow of Bihar is now playing the role of
Killer Katrina. This flood is neither the first nor the last.It has devastated the 16 districts of Bihar within last 22 days. All flood affected villages/towns of 16 ruined districts of North Bihar looks horrible ghost towns.

The most affected districts of Mithilanchal are Madhepura,Supaul,
Saharsa,Purnia,Araria and Katihar. The water levels of the river Ganga is also crossing the danger marks in Bhagalpur and Patna.

The breach in Kosi barrage near Birpur on the Indo Nepal border is widening very rapidly everyday. The scene of this cataclysm would be more worst and more horrible than the present situation after the Hathiya Nakshatra rain in October this year.

It’s shameful that at the time of this national calamity our ministers and bureaucrats are blaming each other.Rather extending their helping hands to the marooned Bihar they are singing the chorus of “the failure of the Bihar Government” to handle this tragic situation.

Unfortunately the rescue operation and flood relief work is unsatisfactory. It’s speed is snail like. The magnitude of the central help is too little than the reality of the flood cataclysm. The distribution of food packets during relief operation in the flood affected areas are like spoonful food for the Blue whale.

The situation in the flood affected districts is horrible.
According to an estimate nearly about 50 lakh people are homeless.
Total toll of this flood would be more than 500.Thousands of people
are still traceless in the biggest Bihar flood fury yet.Corpses of unfortunate flood victims and carcasses of animals are floating in the flood current. It also pollutes the flood water.Thousands of flood victims are still awaiting for the rescue team in the remotest areas of Mithilanchal.

Our government is playing number game to mislead the victims and the world to save the flood aid.Our government can’t hide the bitter truth of this man made catastrophe by hiding the head in the sand like an ostrich.

Indian railway and the railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav is doing praiseworthy for the relief and transportation of the Bihar flood victims.

With Nepal releasing 1.5 - 2 lack cusec water on every 3 or 7 days from the Kosi barrage, the catastrophe is feared to grow even bigger in the future.

Senior social activist of Megah Pyne Abhiyan, Patna Kavindra Kumar Pandey said in a press conference at IHC,New Delhi recently -“On August18,2008,I contacted the PRO of the Water Resource Department of the Government of Bihar on telephone.By ignoring the danger signal of the Kusaha barrage,he replied me that there is not any danger of the flood. Now we see the result of the official mega negligence. No doubt it is impossible to repair the Kusaha barrage before April 2009.”

It’s shameful that some anti social groups are looting the precious things and cattle from the victims of the marooned areas.
They are showing their inhumane and evil nature.Women,Children and animals are not safe here.Children,Women and Animal traffickers are also active in this region.

There must be special protection for them by the district administration. There is not any facility of tele communication, electricity and mobile health care services. There is no mobile patrolling by the local police in the evacuated villages of the flood affected districts Mithilanchal in Bihar.

Children are crying for milk and bread.Pregnant woman are crying for proper Medicare and food. There is no facility of safe drinking water and toilets.Cattle and pet animals are starving without food
,safe water and shelters. They have no money for the proper medical treatment of their children, pregnant wife or daughter in law. They are drinking contaminated flood water. There is not any facility for the prevention and control of the water borne diseases like diarrhea, polio, nausea, cold, fever and measles. The situation of very old people, patients, disabled children, women, pets, downtrodden and cattle are horrible and worst.

It’s amazing and socking that pot bellied & moneyleach political leaders and bureaucrats are enjoying their luxurious life at the time of this national calamity.

Poisonous animals like snakes and scorpions are victimizing the unfortunate flood victims. Some anti social elements are also very active in the remotest villages of Madhepura,Saharsa,Supaul, Araria,Purnia,Khagaria and Katihar.

“This flood has ruined my parental home, property and crops at Rajanibabhangama village in Murliganj.Forbesganj and Narpatganj have been completely devastated by this killer flood. There is no one help the poor and the downtrodden. The lives of poor and dalits have been completely ruined by this flood. They seek bread, water,
medicines, safe shelters, livelihood and rehabilitation; but not the discouraging lecture of our political leaders.” says Om Prakash Verma a resident of Purnia.

Sanjay Kumar Singh of Saharsa said “ Only the railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav is doing a commendable job in the flood relief operation. Our CM should send rescue boat teams in the remotest areas of flood stricken areas of Madhepura,Supaul,Saharsa,Araria and Katihar.Maximum casualties has been occurred near the Kusaha barrage region.”

After undertaking an aerial survey on August 28 the
Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh has announced an immediate fianancial assistance of Rs.1,000 crore to the Bihar state for the rescue and relief operation and 1.25 lakh tonne of foodgrains for the flood victims. He also assured the CM of Bihar Nitish financial support to provide all possible help to meet this situation.Indian states and International organizations are now showering the financial aid to the Government of Bihar for the flood relief and the long term rehabilitation program for the flood victims.

Children, women, disabled and animals are the most vulnerable part of our society.Hence there must be special security for them from the children, women and animal traffickers.

At the time of this national calamity there is lack of dedicated social activists of NGO’s in this state.Esteem International organizations like UNEP,USAID,UNODC,UNICEF,UNFPA,Bill Gates and Milindia Foundation,USA, CEDPA Washington, PRIDE India, Mumbai,
Apne Aap International, Kolkata, NIPCCD, New Delhi,All India Women Conference,New Delhi,Maiti Nepal National Women Conference,
New Delhi,Prayas,New Delhi,CSE,New Delhi,Tarumitra,Patna,NCC,NSS,
Bhoomika Bihar,(Katihar)must help the unfortunate Bihar flood victims.

Army,Navy,Indian Air Force, NDRF,NCC, and Save the Children are doing praiseworthy work for the rescue and survival of the flood victims.

Megh Pyne Abhiyan(Clouds’Water Abhiyan),Nav Jagriti and Gram Bharati are doing a praiseworthy job for the rescue and protection of the North Bihar flood victims under the guidance of the Senior flood prevention expert Dr.D.K.Mishra.

It’s shameful that flood victims are still forced to pay Rs.1,000 to Rs.10,000 for the rescue by the private boatmen. Our wounded marooned Bihar is still crying for help.Let’s wipe the tears of the victims of Bihar flood catastrophe by helping them with open hearts and resources.

There is a crying need of more social activists like Swami Vivekananda,Iswarchandra Vidyasagar,Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,Randhir Verma,Noor Fatima,Viji Srinivasan,Dr.Ajay Bhagat,
Prof.M.K.Singh,D.D. Roy,Dr. N.K.Agrawal,Dr. D.K. Mishra, Ruchira Gupta,Seema S.Chauhan,Vipula Kadri,Amod Kumar Kanth,Kiran Bedi,
Prof. Vinay Kumar Kanth,Prof. Daisy Narain, Prof. Usha Singh,Dr. Sunita Narain,Maneka Gandhi,Amla Akkineni,Acharya Kishore Kunal,
Dr.C.P Thakur,Suresh Yadvendra,S.V.Suresh Babu,Dr. Vidya Survade,
Augustein J.Veliath,Prof.Kiran Ghai Sinha,Adv.Ashok Priyadarshi,
Prof. M.P. Jamuar, Ravi Shanker, S.N. Mishra, Dr Dilip Sen, Dr. Ravindra Narain Singh,Dr. Reena Mohanka, Suranjana Basu Das,Dr.
Shiv Kumar Prasad,Eklavya Prasad,Nivedita Jha, Suman Singh, Dr. Ratna Purkayastha,Suman Lal,Shabab Anwar,Radhe Krishna Prasad,
Farha Aziz,K.K. Pandey,Prof. Radhe Krishna Singh,Devesh Kumar,
Anurag Kaushal,Jitendra Kumar,Prem Kumar,Chitrali Bhattacharya
and Somnath Bhattacharya in Bihar.

Shower of national & International financial aid is just like showers of nectar on corpse or carcasses. It can’t give new lives to the departed souls/alive flood victims. It will take more than 10 years to cure the environmental wound of Bihar. Our government and the bureaucrats must learn something from the earlier faults
/negligence.

Aab ki hatay ????? What will happen now ? That is the biggest question before the flood victims, the officers of the National Disaster Management Organization and green activists.Who will hear the horrible stories of the hapless flood victims? Who will wipe their tears? Who will sing lullabies for the orphaned infants and kids?Who will return their lost beloved parents, children, relatives,
friends, pets animals, property, homes, land, farms and sweet dreams ? Who will punish the real culprits of this man made mega flood catastrophe and eco-terrorism in Bihar ? Who will investigate the greatest environmental blunder of India–the Kusaha barrage breach ? Who will solve the Bihar’s evergreen flood problem ? These are some of the unanswered big questions.

Service to Mankind is the Real Worship to God.Join your hands and resources for the rescue and welfare of the Bihar Flood Victims. They need your helping hands for rescue, food, safe water,
clothes,shelter,sanitation,medicines,security,rehabilitation and blessings.

“Saathi haath badhana,
Ek akela thak jayega ,
Milkar bojh uthana,
Saathi haath badhana, Saathi re .. ”

Yes, flood is the prime reason for the
backwardness of Bihar.Unfortunate this

developing state.

Maximum immigrants in Mumbai,Delhi,NOIDA,
Kolkata,Gauhati,and other Indian cities
are flood victims.Discrimination of Bihari
Youth by separatist groups and corporates

My heart weeps to read the tragic story of the victims of Bihar flood. This flood is completely a result of political negligence and anti-Bihari mentality.

”ka varsa jab krishi sukhani”.

Their is no utility of rain after the drying of the green farms. This proverb
is completely suitable for the present horrible scenario of poor Bihar.

Who will punish the culprits of this devastating killer koshi flood in Bihar?
Hats off to you for this outstanding real story about the Bihar flood.

HELP BIHAR FLOOD VICTIMS

Keep it up.

Thank you Mr.Rahul Sharma.I’m agree with
your views on Bihar flood catastrophe.
There must be an honest investigation regarding the official negligence which
caused this devastating breach in the
embankment at the Kusaha barrage on 18th
August,2008.

Anti Bihari mentality is also one of the
real causes of this year’s devastating Kosi flood fury and the backwardness of this state. It’s shameful.

It’s amazing and shameful that
our Government, pot-bellied political
leaders and bureucrats have not learnt any lesson from the current devastating Kosi flood catastrophe of North Bihar.

Flood business is also one of the major
causes of the Bihar flood. It’s a bitter
truth.

Let’s wipe the tears of innocent North Bihar Flood Victims.

HELP BIHAR, SAVE BIHAR.

The roof of my hut leaks. The mud walls get wet and mud falls down crying for repairs. Each splash brings water on my wooden cot and I get wet because there is no door and I have no means to stop rains. I sit on the cot till it rains. I am afraid to go out because the track road is flooded. I have to swim and go climb a tree to shit because my village does not have a toilet. There is no electricity or potable water. Village well is full of contaminated flood water. I have no water to drink. My matchsticks don’t burn. Woodden blogs are wet and don;t catch fire. I can’t cook food because I don’t have LPG. I am well to do; comparatively, I mean. My mind has stopped functioning because I don’t know how to face and how long to face these man made problems of governance. I don’t want to beg. Can you tell me, what should I do?

Your problem represents the grief stricken millions of victims of North Bihar flood catastrophe. How to survive in this world, when everything has been destroyed by the devastating Kosi flood ????
That is a big question.

Grief and Tragedy teaches us a lot.It
teaches us how to struggle with the domestic problems and survive in this world.

Jo Jeeta Wahi Sikander.

Hence we must struggle to survive in this world.
