I guess I’m even more stupid than I originally thought regarding these horrific crimes... I thought they were only against women...

It is horrible to say, but having ones head and mouth doused with petroleum and THEN set on fire has probably created such escruitiating pain and damage, with such minimal recovery, the poor soul may have been better dieing.

I would imagine the accused are seldom, if ever found?

If they are, what will be their punishment. eye for eye, or a slap on the wrist?

It may not be a situation with classes but castes. Again, the most astonishing factor is that whatever so called lower caste one may belong to but when there is another outsider to watch the inside activities or inner social interaction in a particular caste it will certainly appear that the members do take pride in belonging to that particular unit despite of its perceived loneliness. When such reinforcements of caste sensibilities are taken as a daily dose by the members belonging to it then the quest for upholding and urge for maintaining the perceived superior status or the perceived honour and commitment of that caste gets its manifestation into a very well entrenched and engrained of acceptance of facts at the psychological level. It is at this stage when a shot is experienced, the reaction is bound to be nothing but violent.

So essentially other castes acceptance or prenotioned attitude assuming the lower castes will ”automatically” behave in such fashion is what has psycologically fueled this types of barbaric behavior..??? A type of lower caste sell fullfilling prophecy? Deemed to do what is expected, thus becoming the quasi-acceptable ”norm”?

Negative attitude to love relations in india is the cause for such oft repeated barbaric acts!
